MAX GUESTS: 1
BED SIZE(S): 1 queen-size bed & 1 twin-size daybed
ROOM SIZE: 485 sq. ft.
The quietest and most secluded of 1871 House’s accommodations is without a doubt the Knickerbocker Suite, which guests find ten steps below our lobby, by way of a private foyer. The studio is immediately recognized for its size with around 485 total square feet and a comfortable 20’ by 18’ main living area. A handcrafted walnut and blackened steel queen-size bed centers the apartment, sitting against a white brick chimney wall underneath a beveled pine-framed mirror.
The Knickerbocker Suite’s warm atmosphere is enhanced by the smooth stone flooring, which extends throughout the suite and complements the light color palette of much of the Knickerbocker’s design. Two cozy eating nooks are another unique aspect of the studio: one extends just off the kitchen, with high wicker chairs and a wooden bar, and the other is a corner table with bistro chairs, off of the main living area.
The Knickerbocker Suite also includes a comfortable twin daybed resting against one wall.
The understated and pleasantly subdued feel continues in the kitchen area, with a honed granite countertop extending from a subway tile backsplash and recessed lighting. The kitchenette includes a small refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, electric kettle, and toaster oven.
Stone tiles continue up the walls in the bathroom, setting off the shower’s mosaic floor, the nickel of the medicine cabinet and faucet, and the porcelain pedestal sink.
If a view is not a requirement, this is the home for you!
We think you should know:
-As 1871 House is a historical building and retains much of its 19th Century structure, it is not suited for all accessibility needs.
-The charming, late 1800s townhouse, is not a modern structure – think creaky floorboards, sloping floors and things as such.
-This is a studio apartment without a separate bedroom area
-This apartment is 10 steps down from the entry foyer level
-Stone floors throughout.
-There is one window (the view is of a wall).
-Because of it’s location below the sidewalk level, don’t expect the apartment to be sunny. The apartment gets dim filtered light from its one window
-Ceiling Height: The Knickerbocker Studio might not be suitable for our tallest guests. Entrance to staircase leading to Knickerbocker Studio and stairwell area: 6′; Main Area (where bed & sofa are located); Easter Wall (where the day bed is located) 7’); 6’8″; Bathroom: 6’ 4’’; Dining Area: 6’6”; Kitchenette: 6’8”
-Though there is a 2nd bed provided in this suite, the maximum occupancy is 1
-The registered guest may have an occasional overnight visitor (occupancy not to exceed 2) (fee based)
-The kitchen is better described as a kitchenette: there’s a sink, under-counter refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven…no stove burners or dishwasher. Guests may not add cooking equipment to the apartment.
-The kitchenette is perfect for preparing your morning coffee and other basics.
-The apartment has access to an emergency exit
-There’s no elevator in the building
-The apartment does not have a buzzer system
-a/c is operable from June through October (fee based).
-Pets and smoking are not permitted.
