Knickerbocker Suite

Max Guests 3
Bed Size(s) 1 Queen & 1 Day Bed (standard twin) & 1 Standard Twin Folding Bed
Room Size 485ft2

The quietest and most secluded of 1871 House’s offerings is without a doubt the Knickerbocker Suite, which guests find ten steps below our lobby, by way of a private foyer. The studio is immediately recognized for its size with around 485 square feet total and a comfortable 20’ by 18’ main living area. A handcrafted walnut and blackened steel queen bed sits against a white brick chimney wall, underneath a beveled pine framed mirror and centers the apartment.

The Knickerbocker Suite’s warm atmosphere is enhanced by the smooth stone flooring which extends throughout the suite and complements the light color palette of much of the Knickerbocker’s design. Two cozy eating nooks are another unique aspect of the studio: one extends just off the kitchen, with high wicker chairs and a wooden bar, and the other is a corner table with bistro chairs, off of the main living area.

The Knickerbocker is a good option for those seeking multiple beds, as both the comfortable twin daybed resting against one wall, and the foldout couch, may be used. The love seat makes a quite supportive bed no cot here!

You can pretend you’re the victorious poet in an Irish or Welsh contest by having a seat in the Knickerbocker’s turn-of-the-century bardic chair, keep your things in an antique early American dresser, and enjoy the suite’s sizable print collection. Images of old New York pair with a couple distinctly French elements the chat lunatique entrance knocker, for example to round out the design of this distinctly uncluttered, but rich, suite.

The understated, pleasantly subdued feel continues in the kitchen area, with a honed granite countertop extending from a subway tile backsplash and recessed lighting. The kitchenette includes a small refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, electric kettle, and toaster oven.

Stone tiles continue up the walls in the bathroom, setting off the shower’s mosaic floor, the nickel of the medicine cabinet and faucet, and the porcelain pedestal sink.

The Knickerbocker Suite is our best value suite.
