The Madison suite occupies the complete 3rd floor of 1871 House, extending, as the Lexington Suite above it on the 4th floor, from front to back and thereby providing two special sets of views: the facing row of timeless townhouses and activity of 62nd street to the north, and a cityscape view of skyscrapers, as well as 1871 House’s lovely garden below, to the south.

The back portion of the suite, facing south, consists of one twin and one queen bedroom, while the front, facing north, constitutes the main living area, including another queen bed, as well as a breakfast nook off the kitchen. The latter, offering that picturesque northern view accompanying morning coffee or dining, has a convincing claim on most delightful eating spot in the building, and it’s no shoo-in contest!

The Madison’s airy expansiveness is further enhanced by the approximately 10 foot ceilings and parquet-style hardwood floors, both of which extend throughout the suite. Two marble fireplaces, sure to draw the eye in and give perspective to the spacious suite, are found: one in the larger back bedroom and one near the front, dividing the sitting area from the queen bed there.

The two back bedrooms both boast beds of wrought iron and between them include several antique Irish pine pieces: a tall linen press, a cricket table, a chest of drawers, a blanket chest, and two nightstands.

Several large French reproduction prints, of Toulouse Lautrec and others, add a little more to the brightness and elegance of the front space, which would itself constitute a fairly sizable Manhattan studio apartment. The entire suite extends, in fact, to nearly 1000 square feet. The sitting area of this space gives plenty of room for family and friends, with a sofa, coffee table, and two padded armchairs.

The Madison includes a full size kitchen, with full size refrigerator, gas range/oven, coffeemaker, toaster oven, and a full supply of utensils, dishes, pots, drinking glasses and cups.

The Madison’s central ensuite bathroom consists of a porcelain pedestal sink with gold fixtures and a full tub and shower.
